Setting: The children are going on a trip to the zoo. When they arrive they find that all the animals are loose. None of the animals know where they should belong. The children will be responsible for sorting out the animals and placing them back to their natural habitat area of the zoo. (Three areas: Arctic, Rainforest, Savannahs)
In small groups children will: ·Print out the word document that contains all the animals that are "loose" in the zoo. ·Use Paint program to draw 3 habitat pictures.-- Print out those pictures ·Cut animals from word document. ·Sort out the animals by appropriate habitat ·Glue them into their correct animal habitats
Older students- Use Word to type 3 lists of the animals in each habitat. Then label each animal.
Great idea Amanda! A follow up activity could be to place to students in groups and have them come up with a short story as to how they rescued the animals and brought them back to their natural habitat
I really like this idea. To extend this lesson, maybe students can take a nature walk around school and photograph animals (squirrels, birds etc.) to find out more about what types of animals live in their area. -Erica
